Hey! Pepto Bismol!

Well, did some more shadowing today. You can't expect everyday to be an episode of Greys Anatomy (I would be a little disturbed if this small family run nursing home was like an episode of Greys Anatomy in the first place) but it was still stimulating.

I saw many more diabetes patients come through today, and a five minute wedding video of Dr. Rohini's daughter's wedding. Seeing a christian Indian wedding was intriguing, as the ceremony is the same, but just full of indian saris and fun tamil customs intertwined. For example, along with wedding rings, it is tamil tradition to give the bride a necklace at the same time, such as a gold or silver chain.

I also saw a redressing of a thyroidectomy incision today, which in an air conditioned hospital while wearing scrubs and not a tight fitting salwar kameez would have been just dandy and not a problem.  But with the heat and my salwar constricting my ribcage, I almost passed out like a Victorian lady hearing the term "chicken breast" for the first time. Luckily when I saw another procedure that involved another redressing of surgical incisions later I was fine again. Oh India heat you!

Also, our friends Pragathi and Barkavi, two girls who have been guiding us these past few days throughout the city, bought us jasmine to put in our hair tomorrow! Indian women buy short garlands of fresh jasmine to put in their hair everyday to act as a natural perfume and hair decoration. If I can figure out how to put it in my hair I'll post a picture tomorrow!

Overall, I have seen a lot and learned a lot these past few days, and it is still blowing my mind (and my stomach apparently, but its cool, I've cracked out the cliff bars and pepto) that I'm spending a month here.

Oh yes, I almost forgot the best part of my day. We had smiley potatoes with our Indian fare for dinner, and amlodipine is not just a blood pressure regulator medicine for cats. I was greatly pleased.
